Overview

Program Description Foundation Studies Program (Standard) - Physical Science (X0F:5) (0100808): The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study. To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses. Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering (Specialisation) with Honours - Marine Biology (P4K): This degree provides students the option to combine specialisations from science and engineering to create a truly customised degree that delivers a powerful blend of knowledge and skills. For students who enjoy pursuing their curiosity and understanding of the world around them, consider themselves an innovator, and are passionate about shaping the world from a living laboratory, the University of Tasmania's science degree provides a gateway to an exciting world of immersive learning and discovery. This program combines engineering specialisations, creative design, analysis, and applied science to design, build and manage structures, machines, manufacturing processes and infrastructure. Students will learn how to cross disciplines, and borders, embracing the challenge of creating the world of tomorrow. The modern economy relies heavily on skilled individuals in the fields of science, engineering and technology. As a result, a combined science and engineering degree delivers a powerful combination of practical skills and knowledge that is highly respected by employers. Many students start studying a combined science and engineering degree because they have multiple passions they want to follow, and don't know exactly where they will end up. During students' studies, they will meet other students, academics and visiting lecturers, all of whom may spark an idea of where their particular blend of options could take them. While career options are wide and varied, they typically fall into three main categories: Specialist knowledge related to students' combination of specialisations. Careers where a broad understanding of science is essential (e.g., teacher, journalism, policy advisor). Careers using generic skills obtained during their degree (e.g., public relations, business manager, marketing, government and local councils). At the University of Tasmania, in addition to specialised scientific knowledge and skills, the focus is on giving students the practical and professional skills that are highly sought after by all employers – creative problem-solving, working in a team environment and flexibility of thinking. A career in science and engineering can be in any industry on earth. It will come to where students' passion takes them.
