The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study. To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses. Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours - Crop Science and Plant Health (S4A) (094552A): A degree in Agricultural Science is a student's opportunity to help change the world and be part of a profession where jobs are in demand. Students can choose a future-focused degree that equips them to address some of the world’s biggest challenges and opportunities. Using science, technology and business skills, students will learn to tackle sustainability issues and build a career in a growing industry. The course offers two majors; Crop Science and Plant Health and Sustainable Agriculture. Crop Science and Plant Health: With a strong focus on crop production and protection, students will learn how to apply this knowledge to increase productivity and sustainability in diverse production settings. They will also study a broad range of topics including plant physiology, agronomy, horticultural science, entomology, plant pathology, chemistry, botany, microbiology and farm business economics. Sustainable Agriculture: The goal of sustainable agriculture is to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs – and never has this been more important and students with a focus on agricultural sustainability and animal production systems, at both a biophysical and landscape level, they will gain an understanding of the factors impacting the diverse agriculture industries and the practical and scientific skills to achieve sustainable practices. This major includes the study of chemistry, spatial sciences, ecology, microbiology, farm business economics, pasture science, soil science and the animal sciences. The Bachelor of Agricultural Science provides a sound basis in the physical and biological sciences before students specialise in a broad range of agricultural science disciplines, giving students comprehensive multi-disciplinary knowledge suitable for careers all over the world.
