Overview

The Fashion Manufacturing MA addresses current industry challenges and skills shortages by focusing on apparel production, systems, sourcing, and manufacturing processes. This research-driven, industry-informed programme is designed to meet the evolving needs of fashion manufacturing, spanning design, product development, and innovative production techniques. Developed in collaboration with the UK Fashion and Textile Organisation (UKFT), the course aims to equip students with the knowledge and expertise to challenge traditional fashion manufacturing systems. It places emphasis on technology and design for manufacturing, enabling students to become specialists capable of driving innovation within the industry. The course also encourages critical examination of existing practices, with a focus on social, ethical, cultural, and political considerations within the fashion context. Students explore new production models and advanced processes while gaining hands-on experience through direct industry engagement. The programme ensures graduates are well-prepared for leadership roles by providing valuable skills in prototype manufacturing and garment production. Throughout the course, students have access to state-of-the-art industry machinery, specialist software, and expert teaching staff, creating a dynamic and immersive learning environment. The MA integrates global insights with practical expertise, fostering employability, entrepreneurship, and global fluency across design, business, and production sectors. Graduates are equipped for leadership positions in fashion production, garment technology, and manufacturing management.
