Overview

With a combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Management (B.A./B.Mgt.) or a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Management (B.Sc./B.Mgt.) degree, students can explore a multitude of interests and careers. For example, for candidates who are interested in managing an art gallery, they can major in art and general management. For those who are interested in sports marketing, they can major in kinesiology and marketing. The Combined B.A./B.Mgt. or B.Sc./B.Mgt. degree program takes five years (50 courses) to complete and leads to the conferral of two degrees. History as an academic discipline examines the past to explain how society got to where it is today. The world is politically, economically, and socially complex; to engage it effectively and better understand society, students must first understand the many historical factors that shaped society. Historians work to sharpen the collective memory of society. History students will learn about great leaders of the past and what ordinary people believed and valued — how they lived, worshiped, worked, fought and died. They will have the opportunity to take thematic and regional courses in ancient, medieval and modern history from the geographic areas that shaped the world today. The University of Lethbridge is confident that their courses, as well as their diverse areas of expertise, will offer something of interest to everyone studying history at the university. Economics is the social science that provides understanding, meaning and relevance of human action under conditions of scarcity. In other words, the study of economics enables a more effective use of scarce resources such as people’s time and talents, land, buildings, equipment, tools on hand, and the knowledge of how to combine them to create products and services to satisfy human wants. Economics is a value-free science. It never tells people how to act; it merely shows how they need to act to attain specific results.
