Overview

Those who are caring, resilient, and possess strong communication skills—along with the ability to make decisions calmly—will find paramedic science to be an ideal course. This paramedic course prepares students to serve as the first point of contact for individuals during their most vulnerable moments. Graduates will leave with all the knowledge and skills required to work as paramedics. Many go on to further their education, becoming specialist or advanced paramedics, while others progress into senior positions within the NHS. Alumni often stay actively involved in the professional body, the College of Paramedics, contributing to the advancement of the profession. By studying for a paramedic degree, students join a global community of professionals dedicated to caring for patients every day of the year. Why choose this course? Studying paramedic science at Herts opens the door to a rewarding career. Become industry qualified: Immediately upon graduation, students become eligible for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), qualifying them to work as paramedics from the moment they leave the university. Strong employment prospects: According to Graduate Outcomes 2021/22, 98% of Herts health and social care graduates are in work or further study 15 months after graduation. Undertake work placements and gain industry experience: Throughout the course, students have the opportunity to complete placements with either the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) or the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST). When not on placement, students practice in state-of-the-art simulation areas, using innovative technologies to create immersive experiences that enhance clinical and communication skills. Professional accreditations Health and Care Professions Council The BSc Paramedic Science course is endorsed by the College of Paramedics. Upon graduation, students are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as qualified paramedics. The programme also includes opportunities to study alongside other undergraduate healthcare professionals, enriching students’ understanding of shared healthcare practices and delivery.
