Overview

Program Description This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre for the University of Huddersfield followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Huddersfield. In your international foundation year, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon successful completion of the pathway program. The International Foundation Year in Health and Human Sciences will provide you with the skills and tools necessary to succeed in career fields such as sports science, podiatry, physiotherapy, pharmaceutical science. During your time in the Foundation Year, you will study core subjects, as well as optional subjects intentionally designed for your chosen field of study. These subjects will also prepare you for a career in psychology, behavioural sciences, sociology and criminology. All of these skills will be key for future academic success at the University of Huddersfield. Everyone has times in their life when they may suffer from personal difficulties. Whether they’ve lost someone close, had an unpleasant experience or even come through illness, they may need to reach out for help and support. This course combines the theory of psychology with practical counselling approaches, helping you build the skills required to help people in need. The course aims to give you a unique and invaluable insight into human behaviour. You’ll have the opportunity to use the skills that you’ve developed in a wide range of situations, careers or further study. We’ll look at the science of mind and behaviour, which is the Psychology side of the course, and also at the different types of counselling approaches. Cognitive behavioural therapy, person-centred, psychodynamic therapy and others – you’ll have the opportunity to explore a wide range of techniques. You’ll also look at the importance of health and wellbeing in day-to-day life, and how to support other people in their everyday lives.
