Overview

The Nursing (Adult) programme at Derby is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and experience required to become compassionate, competent, and confident adult nurses. Approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the course adheres to the NMC's Future Nurse: Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses, ensuring that graduates are fully equipped to meet the demands of the profession. Throughout the three-year full-time course, students will gain essential practical experience through clinical placements in various healthcare settings, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. These placements will help students build the confidence and competence needed to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. The course also benefits from state-of-the-art university facilities, including clinical skills suites and immersive simulation suites, which allow students to practice in realistic healthcare environments. Students will benefit from a holistic learning experience, developing a comprehensive understanding of adult nursing and the ability to work with patients across the lifespan, from acute to long-term conditions. The curriculum includes a combination of classroom-based learning, practical skills laboratories, and online learning platforms, offering a flexible approach to education that reflects modern nursing practices. The teaching team at Derby is highly experienced, enthusiastic, and research-active, offering full support to help students achieve their career ambitions. Students will also have access to the NHS Learning Support Fund, which can provide financial assistance for training, childcare costs, and travel to placements, further supporting their studies. The course is available for study at Derby campus (Kedleston Road site) or the Chesterfield site, with intakes in January or September.
