Overview

The MA Education offers an in-depth exploration of education’s role in society, alongside the theories, policies and practices that shape it. The programme provides flexible study options, allowing students to complete a broad-based master’s degree or specialise in a particular area. It supports professional development across early years, schools, further and higher education, and community learning. Teaching is informed by current developments in the field and delivered by an experienced academic team, preparing graduates for advanced professional, leadership and management roles. The Early Childhood pathway explores childhood from critical and historical perspectives, considering how concepts of childhood are constructed and how expectations of the professional workforce have evolved. The Inclusion and Special Educational Needs and Disability pathway examines disability, inclusion and special education through contemporary debates, lived experiences and critical analysis. The Leadership and Management pathway is designed for practitioners in a wide range of educational settings who wish to deepen their understanding of leadership theory and enhance their career progression. The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) pathway focuses on how languages are learned, current pedagogical approaches and ways to support learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds. Overall, the degree allows students to align their studies with their interests while gaining advanced knowledge relevant to modern educational contexts.
