Overview

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree offers a strong career advantage by placing students at the forefront of emerging and future technologies. Graduates enter one of the UK’s most in-demand professions, with opportunities across diverse sectors such as avionics, medical electronics, automotive electrical and electronic systems, electrical power generation, the rail industry, and the music and entertainment sector. The programme begins with a multidisciplinary first year that covers all key areas of engineering, allowing students who are unsure of their preferred specialism to build a broad foundation aligned with employer expectations. In the second year, there is flexibility to continue with Electrical and Electronic Engineering or transfer to BEng (Hons) Motorsport Engineering or BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering. An optional industry placement year further enhances professional readiness by providing valuable insights into real-world engineering practice. Teaching takes place at the Markeaton Street site, an inspirational environment featuring an impressive STEM Centre equipped with modern laboratories, workshops, and advanced technology. The academic team brings extensive expertise across various branches of electrical and electronic engineering and has contributed significantly to research and textbook publications. The course is also available part-time for direct entry into the final year.
