Overview

The Nursing Dual Award (Adult and Child) at Derby offers an exceptional opportunity for students to qualify as Registered Nurses in two fields of practice, preparing them for a versatile career in healthcare. The programme is approved against the NMC's Future Nurse: Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses, ensuring graduates are eligible to apply for dual award registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council upon successful completion. Students will gain invaluable practical experience through a range of placements in both healthcare and community settings, allowing them to develop essential hands-on skills and insights. Students benefit from access to world-class university facilities, including a clinical skills suite and state-of-the-art immersive suite, which are designed to enhance learning through simulated environments. The course is led by a highly experienced and research-active team who provide comprehensive support to help students succeed in their studies and career aspirations. Additionally, eligible students may benefit from the NHS Learning Support Fund, which can provide financial support for training, childcare, and travel to placements. The programme prepares students for registration as nurses, enabling them to work with clients who have a wide range of acute, diverse, and long-term conditions. It offers a holistic learning experience, focusing on the development of emotional resilience and transformational nursing skills. Over the four years, students will engage in a series of modules that cover fundamental knowledge and skills required for safe and effective nursing practice, along with an in-depth understanding of both adult and child nursing. In the final year, students will complete additional modules to consolidate their skills in the second field of practice, supporting future career progression. This full-time, four-year course is designed for applicants without a prior degree and enables them to achieve a Masters-level award alongside NMC registration in two fields of practice. The programme includes a mix of classroom-based learning, skills laboratories, and technology-enhanced instruction, such as online and web-based training. Students can choose from a range of dual award options, including Adult and Mental Health, Adult and Child, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, or Learning Disabilities and Child, providing flexibility and opportunities for specialized career paths in nursing.
