The Master of Science in Applied Data Science aims to train a new generation of data scientists to meet the growing demand for specialist skills in this field. Data Science has become a new and important discipline of science that has a wide range of applications (e.g. AgriTech, FinTech, HealthTech, EdTech, Transport). It includes solutions that handle big data from capturing, storing, processing, analysing data to visualizing insights. These solutions can include data mining, machine learning, advanced analytics, data visualisation and in-database analytics. Underpinned by the Department’s research expertise, a unique feature of the programme is the embedding of skills and knowledge relevant to leadership in IT, technology innovation and enterprise, ethics, and research. These skills will be developed through a series of workshops conducted by relevant experts from within the University and from industry. This programme is a specialist master’s programme for first-degree holders in computing-related majors such as computer science, computer engineering or software engineering. The programme consists of 3 common core modules, 3 specialised core modules, a leadership and innovation module, a work placement module, and an individual project. The real basis of the University of Buckingham’s success has been its staff and, above all, students. Those who will graduate this year follow in a distinguished line and they and their successors will carry the reputation of th...
