Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Studio Emphasis is an interdisciplinary liberal arts degree that allows students to design a personalized suite of 42 studio electives based on interests across various media within the School of Art. BA Studio Art majors must also complete a Minor Area Course of Study, two years of a foreign language, or five courses in American Sign Language. Academics in the Myers School of Art offer professional-level instruction and mentorship from faculty with broad expertise in the study, creation, and exhibition of art. The program is distinguished by its dynamic and interdisciplinary approach to undergraduate education, its faculty with international reputations as artists, designers, and scholars, and a supportive, collaborative community among students, faculty, and staff. The University of Akron’s urban setting provides strong connections to the city’s $1.4 billion arts and culture industry, while experiential learning opportunities include working with visiting artists and participating in domestic and international travel. Generous scholarships and grants make the program accessible, providing a private school experience at the cost of a public education.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
