Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in History equips students with both knowledge of the past and practical skills applicable across a wide range of careers. History students develop the ability to read widely and critically, enhance analytical and writing skills, and gain experience in oral communication. These competencies have supported the success of attorneys, teachers, civic and business leaders, military professionals, and many others. The study of history fosters intellectual skills, cultural sensitivity, independent thinking, and informed citizenship. Faculty and students in the Department of History examine the forces that shaped past events and continue to influence the present, with faculty research spanning from the ancient world to contemporary history. The program encourages students to design degree paths that pursue individual historical interests while also cultivating a broad understanding of history across time and place.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
