Overview

The Political Science, Philosophy, and Economics Departments have collaborated to create the Social Sciences Division PPE track. This interdisciplinary degree consists of courses from all three departments and provides preparation for graduate study in any of these disciplines as well as law school. Philosophy students acquire knowledge and skills applicable to a wide range of fields, including critical thinking and analytical reasoning, decision-making, effective communication, ethical judgment, and practical application of knowledge in real-world settings. Philosophy emphasizes demonstrated proficiency that spans multiple disciplines, enabling graduates to achieve long-term career success. Political Science graduates pursue careers in graduate or law school, political campaign management, elected office, state and local government, or federal agencies such as the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. State Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Environmental Protection Agency, and organizations like Amnesty International. Economics is the study of decision-making in a world of scarce resources. Students develop analytical and problem-solving skills while exploring economic theories and their application to diverse fields, including finance, international trade, poverty reduction, and environmental challenges. The BA program includes core courses in theory, quantitative methods, and computer applications, along with a selection of economics electives. Students may choose field electives tailored to career paths in business, banking and international economics, public policy, or graduate study. A senior project completed in one of the final field courses demonstrates the ability to apply learned knowledge both analytically and quantitatively, providing an important showcase of skills to potential employers.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
