Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) program requires the completion of a minimum of 120 credits, including 46 credits within the social work major. The program does not grant social work course credit for life experience or previous work experience, in accordance with CSWE Accreditation Standard 4.1.5. Students wishing to major in social work must request an intercollege transfer to the College of Health and Human Sciences, School of Social Work and Family Sciences from their current college. Admission to the School requires a minimum 2.5 grade point average and completion of 30 credit hours. Once admitted, students must complete a separate admissions packet to be accepted as a social work major in good standing. The social work major is built on a liberal arts foundation within the general education program. Students must complete general education requirements in liberal arts, mathematics, and English prior to full admission into the social work major. The program encourages completion of all general education requirements early in the degree, allowing students to focus on social work courses in the final semesters. Post-baccalaureate students must also satisfy all preadmission criteria.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Verify before applying

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
