Overview

The Applied AI and Information Systems major prepares students to lead in a rapidly evolving field by integrating foundational knowledge of information systems with advanced applications of artificial intelligence. The program emphasizes the strategic use of data for operational and analytical decision-making, while providing hands-on experience with tools such as Python, Large Language Models, and Tableau. Information systems professionals focus on both IT and its domain of application, developing expertise in strategizing, designing, and sustaining technology to leverage new opportunities enabled by information technology. Graduates of the program are prepared for careers such as computer network architects, software developers, information security analysts, AI program managers, and AI solution architects. The field of computer and information technology is projected to grow 11% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. The median annual wage for these occupations was $91,250 in May 2020, substantially higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $41,950.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Verify before applying

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
