Overview

Manufacturing technologists play a critical role in optimizing manufacturing operations, ensuring that equipment, technologies, and processes function efficiently. Automated technologies are employed to reduce operating costs, enhance worker safety, and increase production output while improving quality. The Automated Manufacturing Engineering Technology Bachelor’s Degree program at the University of Akron builds upon associate degree education, providing a comprehensive understanding of modern manufacturing technologies. Cooperative education and internship programs offer paid, flexible industry experience. Students also have the opportunity to participate in nationally recognized design teams, applying knowledge outside the classroom while building professional experience and networks. The curriculum covers all facets of manufacturing, including the analysis, design, and management of resources, facilities, and personnel involved in manufacturing processes. Industry-trained faculty instruct students in computer-aided technologies such as CAD, CNC, and CAM, as well as in management techniques, work measurement, safety procedures, plant layout, quality control, and robotics. Additional coursework includes hydraulics, pneumatics, quality assurance, and cost estimating, all essential for careers in manufacturing. Graduates of the program are prepared for employment in industries focused on the design, modification, installation, and operation of automated manufacturing systems, materials, machines, and methods. Recent University of Akron graduates with a B.S. in Automated Manufacturing Engineering Technology have secured positions as manufacturing automation specialists, advanced quality control specialists, manufacturing engineering technologists, CNC machine tool programmers, robotics engineers/technologists, industrial engineering technologists, and maintenance and repair technologists.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Verify before applying

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
