Overview

Electrical and electronic engineering technology forms the foundation of most modern equipment, including cell phones, computers, power generation systems, and manufacturing facilities. The program emphasizes laboratory-based learning to prepare graduates for careers that integrate the latest technologies and their applications. Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program are in high demand and pursue careers in fields such as power distribution, industrial controls, electronics, and technical management. Students gain hands-on experience by working alongside faculty who are seasoned professionals and expert practitioners. Participation in nationally ranked design teams provides opportunities to develop practical skills, build professional resumes, and engage in collaborative projects while traveling. Professional networks are further strengthened through involvement in student chapters of organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and other related associations. Recent University of Akron graduates with a B.S. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology have secured positions at companies such as FirstEnergy, Bosch, American Electric Power, Ward Jet, and Timken Steel. Graduates hold a variety of technician, technologist, and engineering roles across the electrical and electronic industries. Completion of the ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree, combined with professional work experience and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering and Professional Engineers exams, enables graduates to become registered professional engineers.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Verify before applying

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
