Overview

The Master of Applied Politics (MAP), offered in cooperation with the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics and the University of Akron Political Science Department, is one of a limited number of graduate programs in the United States that focuses on practical politics and experiential learning. The program is designed for students interested in election campaigns, digital strategy and messaging, fundraising, organizational management, and other political activities. All applied politics courses are delivered synchronously online, making residency in Northeast Ohio optional. Applied politics is a comprehensive study of American politics with an emphasis on practical skills, including networking and hands-on learning experiences. The MAP program prepares graduates for careers as high-impact professionals in the political field. Alumni are equipped to pursue roles in campaign management and communications, elected office, community organizing, digital strategy, fundraising, government relations and lobbying, nonprofit management, party or group leadership, policy analysis, and political consulting.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
