Overview

The BSc (Hons) in Software Design in Artificial Intelligence for Cloud Computing focuses on the development of expertise in software development, with a specialised emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud Computing. Cloud Computing provides the infrastructure and resources necessary for the deployment and operation of AI applications, and the programme aims to cultivate high levels of intellectual awareness and professional competence in these areas. Ireland is recognised as a leading centre of software excellence in Europe, hosting multinational and indigenous firms that generate €16 billion in exports annually. The software sector encompasses development, research and development, business services, and EMEA/International headquarters operations. According to the Forfás Vacancy Overview Report, professional roles in software development—particularly in Cloud Computing and AI—represent some of the most difficult vacancies to fill in the ICT sector. Graduates of the programme are prepared for careers as software designers, game developers, database programmers and administrators, and technical sales professionals. Employers include global technology companies such as Ericsson, Valeo, Cisco, Avaya (Nortel), SAP, Hewlett-Packard, Google, Microsoft, IBM, Riverdeep, as well as financial institutions and SMEs. Successful graduates are eligible to pursue Level 9 and Level 10 postgraduate programmes at TUS or other institutions. Those completing the honours degree may also apply for the Master of Science in Software Engineering (Level 9).
