Overview

The MSc Software Design with Cybersecurity provides both theoretical and practical skills to understand and respond to computer security threats in the modern enterprise. The programme equips learners with a broad range of competencies required to engage successfully in a variety of security-focused career roles. It offers a comprehensive insight into the role and practice of security within organisations, enabling a holistic understanding of the security context and how security processes and lifecycles align with business activities, supporting the identification and prioritisation of security needs. The course is supported by the development of key security technology competencies across the student cohort. It includes a thorough introduction to cryptography, building an understanding of cryptographic algorithms and mechanisms, which underpins the development of skills in network security and computer security. Together, these areas form the security foundation of enterprise information technology infrastructures on which organisations operate. The programme offers strong employment prospects, reflecting the long-standing shortage of graduates in the ICT sector. Industry reports have highlighted that a significant proportion of hard-to-fill vacancies are within ICT, particularly in professional software development and security-related roles requiring skills in areas such as Java, JavaScript, C++, .NET, database technologies, web, cloud, and mobile development. The programme is designed to develop these in-demand technical competencies, supporting progression into roles such as security architect, security risk analyst, security operations analyst, security platform engineer, and secure software developer. On successful completion, graduates have opportunities to progress to further Level 9 or Level 10 programmes at TUS or other institutions. TUS is recognised for delivering innovative, industry-focused master’s programmes that equip graduates with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in a competitive global marketplace, supported by dedicated academic staff committed to high-quality education and professional development.
