Overview

The Department of Anthropology offers both Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in anthropology as well as a minor in anthropology. There are opportunities for majors in our department to expand their classroom education in anthropology by becoming involved in faculty research projects, participating in field schools and study abroad opportunities, taking part in the Honors Program and by joining the Texas State University chapter of the Lambda Alpha Anthropology Honor Society. Undergraduate Anthropology majors choose between two degrees: The Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science. The undergraduate curriculum for students seeking the B.A. and B.S. degrees in Anthropology is structured to ensure that all students receive the knowledge to achieve the educational outcomes prescribed by the faculty, as well as allow for flexibility in training so that the personal goals of each student is achieved. Students pursuing either degree have the opportunity to participate in departmental field schools and/or an internship program.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
