2-Term Pathway - International Foundation Programme - Business and Management - continue to Bachelor of Science - Construction Management (Honours)

The International Foundation Programme at Solent University is designed specifically to support students in the transition from an overseas High School education, to undergraduate study in the UK. Alongside language development units, students will also build their confidence and independence, developing their study skills. The inclusion of subject-specific pathways prepare students for their chosen subject area, enabling them to familiarise themselves with some of the theories and terminology that they can expect to encounter at undergraduate level. This particular pathway develops students knowledge and skills in business and management, with a particular focus on external business pressures and management theory. Solent’s Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)-accredited Construction Management degree has been running for over 30 years. Led by qualified professionals with extensive industry experience, students will learn both the technology of building, as well as process management. Students will get to grips with the economic aspects of a project and the industry’s legal framework, while extensive industry involvement ensures they experience the most up-to-date technology and management techniques available. Students will develop valuable industry skills and gain first-hand experience on this practical and vocational degree. Employability is embedded into the course, and employers are regularly involved in the delivery and assessment of projects at all levels. Course content is regularly reviewed to meet industry and professional requirements, and covers emerging topics in the field of construction management to ensure that learning is right up to date. The curriculum has been designed to give students the skills required by employers in the industry. And by undertaking challenging live briefs students will develop their teamwork, project management, problem-solving, decision-making and negotiation skills. Teaching and learning is very much focused on the practical application of theory - developing their critical thinking skills and practicing the types of activities students will undertake once they graduate. Solent's industry networks built up from their academic networks and annual construction industry conference allow them to invite high profile guest speakers from industry, which recently has included Carol Massey, Strategic Customer Relationship Director for Construction, The Access Group, and Honorary Doctor at Solent University. As a student on this course, students will also benefit from professional accreditation by the CIOB. This means the course meets the standards set by employers, and enables them to take steps towards gaining professional qualifications, even before graduation.
