Overview

The South University Master of Science in Physician Assistant Program is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to excel as compassionate healthcare clinicians across various medical specialties. It fosters an educational environment for evidence-based, patient-centered care. Physician assistants, as licensed clinicians, can diagnose illnesses, order tests, manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often act as a patient's primary healthcare provider. The program's comprehensive curriculum provides graduates with skill to collaborate as valued medical professionals while delivering high-quality patient care. The scope of practice varies by state laws, medical settings, and the physician assistant's experience. Emphasizing access to care, reducing health disparities, and community outreach, we strive to provide inclusive educational experiences for students, faculty, and staff. Note the following: For licensure "Graduates are required to pass the national certification exam and obtain a state license in order to work in the field. (Exam names vary by program.) Please refer to the State Professional Licensure Determination and National Certification/Licensure section of the University catalog for additional information. South University cannot guarantee each graduate will pass the required licensure examinations. South University does not promise or guarantee licensure, employment, or salary amounts." For clinical "Programs, including all Clinical/Medical programs have a required ground clinical, practicum, or externship. We cannot guarantee flexibility in these components of the program."

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
