Overview

Program Description Employers in every field – from education to business, social services to health care – seek out people who have special insights into human behavior. At ONU, they'll expose students to many possible career paths and help them find one they're passionate about. As psychology majors, students may choose to focus their studies on general psychology, clinical/counseling or behavioral neuroscience. Each course of study combines rigorous coursework with extensive research experience. Students will work side-by-side with professors in the lab designing and conducting experiments. They’ll develop essential skills in leadership, teamwork, communication and critical thinking. The behavioral neuroscience concentration is designed for students who want to explore human behavior from a biological perspective. Students will delve deeper into the topics of how neural communication and synaptic transmission result in overt behavior; the positive and negative influences of pharmacological agents on behavior; and the physiological basis of psychological disorders. In addition, students will have the opportunity to work in a faculty-directed research lab, assisting with innovative research in the behavioral neuroscience field. This concentration is ideal for students interested in graduate studies in behavioral neuroscience, neuropsychology, clinical psychology (with a focus on clinical neuroscience) or experimental psychology, or students interested in attending medical school to become a psychiatrist or neurologist.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
