Overview

Students of this interdisciplinary degree programme will explore the past, address today’s most pressing global challenges, and prepare for dynamic careers shaping the future. The programme offers a unique opportunity to combine a broad range of humanities subjects with an understanding of how emerging technologies are transforming the world, while equipping students with the skills and experience necessary to thrive in the modern workplace. Global in scope, the degree enables students to engage with key contemporary issues such as conflict, climate change, and the ethical dimensions of media and technology. Based in the heart of London, students benefit from immersive learning in one of the world’s most vibrant and diverse cities. They also have the opportunity to spend a semester at Northeastern University’s Boston campus in the USA, adding an international dimension to their studies. The BA (Hons) Culture, Technology & Global Challenges draws on disciplines such as English, creative writing, philosophy, history, art history, politics, and international relations, offering flexible options for students to tailor their academic journey to their interests and aspirations. Throughout the programme, they will enhance their research abilities and develop the technological and data literacy skills essential for success in the digital era. Designed with employability at its core, the degree has been co-created and endorsed by a range of employers. Each year, students collaborate with external partners in areas such as culture, technology, and social engagement. In the final year, a semester-long work placement allows them to apply their learning in a professional setting—an invaluable opportunity to build networks and prepare for their transition into the workforce. The final project combines academic research with practical application, enabling students to demonstrate critical thinking, real-world problem-solving, and the ability to make a meaningful impact. Graduates of this programme will possess a robust set of humanities and technology-related skills, a deep understanding of global challenges, and substantial experience in addressing complex issues in the workplace. With a toolkit of future-proof, AI-proof, and transferable skills, they will be well-prepared for a wide range of careers across the cultural and creative industries, business, media, the civil service, and political or NGO sectors.
