Overview

The MasterScholar North Carolina Math Camp (NCMC), hosted at Saint Mary’s School and taught by Duke University faculty, presents a valuable opportunity for high school students to delve deeper into the study of advanced mathematics. The program is offered in two separate sessions each summer, with the second session reserved for the most advanced students. Recommended by MIT as an alternative to the renowned PRIMES program, NCMC offers teaching resources from a top-tier university and focuses on nurturing students' independent research and teamwork skills. Students who successfully complete the program receive an individualized faculty evaluation letter, and the top-performing students are also awarded a university recommendation letter. Why Choose NCMC? Advanced Mathematics Exposure: Students explore proof-based mathematics, analytical reasoning, and mathematical research. Collaborative Academic Environment: The program encourages teamwork, discussion-based learning, and research skill-building. University-Style Learning Experience: Students experience a structured academic environment, taught by Duke University faculty and notable guest lecturers. Note: The 2026 MasterScholar North Carolina Math Camp (NCMC) will be held on campus at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, NC.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
