Overview

Program Description This two-semester course is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree. It aims to help you develop the skills you need to join the second year of a related degree at the University of Leeds, by building on your pre-existing English language skills and supporting you through the introduction to a British-style university curriculum. Our teachers work closely with students to bring you a tailored, personal studying experience and allow you to seamlessly enter an undergraduate degree. International Relations is an insightful subject to study in the 21st Century. As well as improving your use of English language for application in an academic environment, there are a number of insightful subject-specific modules included in this pathway. Politics, international trade, social studies and the modern history of international relations are among some of the key topics included within this International Year One. International relations explores how states interact and co-operate with each other. This course offers you an historical understanding of the development of the ‘society of states’ and how it is changing today. Taught by experts in a stimulating research environment, you’ll examine the ways in which states behave and what obligations they may have to wider conceptions of international society. You’ll explore the political dynamics that influence interstate cooperation, and the roles of international organizations like the UN in promoting international peace and security.
