Overview

The Bachelor in Facilities Management at Illinois Tech is the first named facilities management degree offered by an Illinois university, and it is designed specifically for individuals already working as facility engineers, stationary engineers, and HVAC installers or servicers. This STEM-designated, 2+2 degree completion program gives technical professionals a proven pathway to develop the managerial skills, leadership competencies, and technological expertise needed to advance into roles such as facility manager, chief Engineer, or director of facilities operations. The bachelor’s degree in facilities management is a career-focused program that prioritizes the needs of technical professionals. This program allows students who have earned an associate of applied science (AAS) degree or who have accrued 60 equivalent credit hours to earn a formal bachelor’s degree in just two to three years. Unlike programs focused on architectural design, the curriculum emphasizes the practical management of operations, people, and technology to prepare students for executive oversight.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
