Overview

The MSc in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy program aims to develop individuals' knowledge and understanding of sustainability theory, principles, and practice. It empowers students to influence and advance policy and planning solutions for the environmental and sustainability challenges faced by government, business, and regulatory bodies. The program, which is accredited by RICS and partially accredited by the RTPI, addresses three key dimensions that equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute to future policy development and address sensitive environmental and sustainability issues. These dimensions include: Principles and process: The program explores how policies can contribute to more sustainable development and examines the potential barriers to achieving this goal. Resource sector studies: Students engage in comparative and in-depth analysis of sustainability issues in key economic sectors such as food, transport, renewable energy, and housing. This analysis helps students understand the challenges and opportunities for sustainability within these sectors. Research training: The program also focuses on developing students' research skills that are relevant to sustainability. These skills are valuable for academic progression and professional practice in the field of sustainability. Overall, the MSc in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy program offers a professional and comprehensive approach to sustainability education, preparing students to make meaningful contributions to policy development and address pressing environmental and sustainability challenges.
