The section has an established and growing reputation for high-quality research across a wide range of topics, including management accounting, financial reporting, corporate finance, asset pricing, financial econometrics, international finance, and corporate governance. It also supports interdisciplinary approaches and research into areas such as public sector accounting and accounting practices in emerging economies. The programme is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge of research methodologies and to develop the analytical and critical skills required for high-level academic and professional work. Students receive in-depth training in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, enabling them to conduct rigorous and impactful research. The skills developed throughout the programme are applicable to careers in academia as well as in consultancy, finance, and related sectors. Students are supported in developing their ability to evaluate existing research, apply advanced analytical techniques, and effectively communicate their findings. The programme fosters independence, collaboration, and strong research planning skills, preparing students to contribute meaningfully to academic debates and professional practice. With access to internationally recognised scholars and a supportive research environment, students are encouraged to achieve their full potential as researchers. Candidates with strong evidence of research training acquired via previous Master's level degrees may be admitted directly to our 3-year PhD Programme.
