The PhD in English Literature provides postgraduate students with the opportunity to undertake original research and contribute new knowledge to their chosen area of study within a vibrant and internationally recognised academic community. The programme welcomes applications across a broad chronological and theoretical range of English literature, with supervision provided by leading scholars actively shaping developments in the field. Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively, engaging fully in the intellectual life of the School while developing their research within a supportive and interdisciplinary environment. The programme is designed to equip students with advanced critical, theoretical, and research skills, culminating in the production of a substantial doctoral thesis that represents an original contribution to the discipline.
