Overview

Infection and Immunity is a specialised research area within the postgraduate research programmes, focusing on the study of infectious diseases and immune system function from fundamental mechanisms through to clinical application. The research spans molecular and cellular processes underlying infection and immune responses, with the aim of improving diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The programme offers expertise across key areas such as innate immunity, cancer immunology, T-cell biology, and viral and bacterial infections. Research is supported by advanced technological platforms, including genomics, proteomics, lipidomics, imaging, and flow cytometry, alongside strong capabilities in cell and molecular biology. This integrated approach enables students to investigate disease processes in depth and contribute to translational research. Students benefit from access to modern, purpose-built laboratory facilities and shared core resources, providing a well-equipped environment for experimental research. The programme supports interdisciplinary collaboration and offers opportunities to develop advanced technical skills relevant to careers in biomedical research, healthcare, and related fields.
