Overview

The M.S. in Mechanical Engineering program provides the opportunity for students to specialize in one of three emphasis areas: mechanical system design, system dynamics and control, and thermal-fluid systems. The program features a thesis plan and a comprehensive examination plan so that the students can tailor their studies to complement their specific career and educational goals. The overall learning outcomes for the program are: Understand and apply advanced engineering mathematics, particularly to problems requiring matrix analysis and solutions of differential equations. Be able to apply modern computational tools to attain solutions of complex mechanical engineering problems in one of the four emphasis areas. Demonstrate achievement of the specific learning outcomes assigned to their chosen emphasis area. Note: This is a STEM program offered by California State University, Northridge.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Verify before applying

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
