Overview

The Bachelor of Fine Arts is ideal for students who have passion for making art and is compelled to express their unique perspective through their work. They enjoy working across a variety of techniques and media to find the means of personal expression. The BFA Studio Art degree is immersive in that students will complete the General Education Core, and all remaining classes will be Art + Design courses. This is a generalist program, so students do not specialize in any one discipline but learn to express themselves across a variety of art disciplines. This degree concludes with an exhibition of the student’s thesis work. All of this prepares students to exhibit in galleries and otherwise sell their work through personal websites. APSU houses the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts which brings great speakers and exhibiting artists that students are able to meet and assist with installing exhibitions. Students have opportunities to study abroad in Italy, or complete up to two internships at regional museums and galleries. Students will have an opportunity to have a semi-private studio space in The Living Gallery of the new Art + Design Building. As a 4-year university, APSU offer coursework in a variety of subject areas that allow for major/minor pairings that are not possible at art institutions.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
